Did you know that lipstick also has toxic chemicals that must be watched? The Food and Drug Administration and Campaign for Safe Cosmetics began researching lead in lipstick around 2007.
They found that 61% of the 33 popular lipstick labels tested were positive for lead. An expanded 2010 study by the FDA found lead content in more than 400 different lipsticks.
researchers at the University of California found that lead is not the only thing you should be aware of. They also found toxic metals, such as chromium, aluminum, and manganese on some lipstick labels.
Toxic chemicals are often hidden in lipstick
Lead contamination in lipstick products is a documented problem that adversely affects the health of women and children. Men are also at risk of exposure to acetate from hair dyes.
Lead clearly poses health risks for men and women of all ages, especially children should be extra careful. The main problem is that neurotoxins in them have an effect on the brain, so children with brains that are not fully developed are targets that really need to be protected.
Low amounts of lead can cause weakness, increased blood pressure, and anemia. Whereas exposure to higher amounts can damage the brain, kidneys, and other organs, even life-threatening.
Next time before you buy lipstick, make sure that the product has been through a research test. What is your favorite lipstick?
