Natural Ways to Overcome Red Eyes



 Red eye is usually the result of an irritated or swollen vessel in the eye and can indicate various health problems.


This condition can be triggered by various factors. The most common causes are inflamed vessels on the surface of the eye. It could also be due to the influence of sun exposure, dry air, dust, allergies, microbes such as bacteria and viruses, cough, fever or flu.

The more serious cause of red eye is an infection that may occur in various parts of the eye and cause additional symptoms such as eye pain, or even changes in your vision.

There are many ways to deal with red eyes, including cold water compresses, using cucumber, rose water, tea bags, aloe vera, apple cider vinegar and coconut oil.

1. Cold water compresses




How to apply ice directly to the red eye. Hold for one minute. Repeat 2 to 3 times after every 5 minutes. Do this at least twice a day.

Cold compresses are the best for treating inflammation and swelling in your eyes. This also helps in the eye blood vessels, thus helping to reduce redness.

2. Cucumber




Cut a few slices of cold cucumber. Place slices on each eye. Leave for about 30 minutes. Do this twice a day for the best results.


Cucumber is one of the best solutions for treating red eyes. It has a soothing and cooling properties that can help in minimizing the blood vessels in the eye.


3. Rose water




How to take two cotton and soak in rose water. Place the cotton in your eyes, and leave it for 15 minutes. You have to do this 1 to 2 times a day.

Rose water has a calming and relaxing effect on your eyes. Its anti-inflammatory properties reduce inflammation and irritation in the eyes.


4. Tea bags




Take two used tea bags and refrigerate. After one hour, remove them and place them in the eyes. Allow 15 to 20 minutes. Do this at least twice a day.


Tea contains tannins which can help soothe red eyes.

5. Aloe vera



Take aloe vera gel and mix with the same amount of water. Cool the mixture for one hour. Soak two cotton in the mixture of the waste tongue, then place it over your eyes. Leave for 20 to 30 minutes. Do this at least once a day.

Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help calm red eyes and irritation.

6. Apple cider vinegar



Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with a cup of water. Soak two cotton balls in this mixture and place them over closed eyes. Leave for 30 minutes. Do this 1 to 2 times a day.


Apple cider vinegar can also help treat red eyes. It contains acetic acid which has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which can naturally reduce the redness of your eyes and prevent further infection in irritated eyes.


7. Coconut oil



Pour a drop of pure coconut oil in the corners of the inside of your eyes. Do this twice a day for several weeks.

Coconut oil consists of medium chain fatty acids which are very moisturizing and function as anti-inflammatory. This helps in keeping your eyes lubricated and reducing inflammation.
